It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I can’t believe Christmas is just a few short days away! Quick poll:
How ready are you for Christmas?
Presents are wrapped and the baking commenced!
Still have a few last minute things to grab.
Marathon shopping this weekend!
I absolutely love Christmas. It’s just so magical with all the decorations and memories being made - and I really love those sappy Christmas movies. You know the ones I’m talking about…the ones that make you laugh; make you angry; and make you cry when they find the true meaning of Christmas. And when you combine all of those with traveling and making memories, count me in!
There are so many great places to visit during Christmas that are bound to give you all the feels. These are my top 10 favorites (in no particular order) for various reasons. Let me know in the comments which one is calling your name!
New York City, New York
Every time I think of NYC, Home Alone comes to mind - anyone else? Nothing is more iconic than Christmas in NYC. While it can be extremely busy during the holidays, you can’t miss the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Plaza (and take a spin on the skating rink, too!) or the classic window displays on Fifth Avenue. Don’t forget to take in a show like The Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular or visit Macy’s in Herald Square and see Santa!
Vail, Colorado
If you love to ski, then Vail is the place for you! This is the perfect Christmas getaway where you can spend time at the slopes before shopping in their picture-perfect village. Each December they have an adorable market, called Kris Kringle Market, on the streets of Vail filled with unique holiday-made items. It’s the perfect location to find those one-of-a-kind gifts for those who are hard to shop for.
North Pole, Alaska
A place where you can literally tell everyone you visited the North Pole and you don’t have to leave the US! It’s basically every kiddo's dream (and several adults - yes I’m talking to you). The small town in Alaska is home to the Santa Claus House. You can see live reindeer, the world's LARGEST Santa Statue, and take a walk down Santa Claus Lane. It’s the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit.
Woodstock, Vermont
Woodstock is full of that New England charm - especially during the holidays. This picturesque town will make you feel like you stepped right into a Hallmark movie. Each year, Woodstock hosts a holiday celebration that has carriage rides, amazing decorations all over (homes, too) and so much more! It’s a sweet little town you won’t want to miss.
Hershey, Pennsylvania
Chocolate, anyone? Personally, there is no better way to spend Christmas than with tons of chocolate! Adults and kids alike will love to spend Christmas at Hersheypark’s Christmas Candylane. With over 5 million lights filling the park, they will enjoy the holiday rides and visit with Santa and his reindeer. It’s a great way to spend Christmas with the family.
Leavenworth, Washington
Leavenworth reminds me of a snow globe. The Bavarian style of this small town loves to decorate its downtown with Christmas lights. While these are beautiful during the holiday season, the best part is that you’ll be able to take in the beauty of this town all year round.
Chicago, Illinois
The Windy City is full of cheer during the holiday season. There are so many holiday activities to enjoy while visiting. You can ice skate at Maggie Daley Park; visit the Christmas tree exhibition, or go shopping at Christkindlmarket. So many options to enjoy and close to home for many.
Dahlonega, Georgia
This Hallmark-worthy town is like being in a snow globe. From the twinkling lights to the horse-drawn carriages to their postcard-worthy wineries, this town will have you all in your Christmas feels. Everyone will adore their classic Southern Christmas and it’s just a little over an hour from Atlanta!
Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina
While this recommendation is more for the hotel than the town, the Biltmore is the perfect place to stay during the holidays. The elegant rooms showcase Christmas trees, garlands, and so many lights! You can take a self-guided tour of the Biltmore “house” or take a special behind-the-scenes guided tour. There are wine tastings held at the Biltmore winery and then head over to The Dining Room for a very nice dinner. It’s a perfect place to visit with minimal need to travel off-property.
Stockbridge, Massachusetts
If you’re a Norman Rockwell fan, then you’ll love Stockbridge. This town was illustrated in Norman’s 1967 painting titled “Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas”. Since then, Stockbridge has gone all out when decorating for Christmas. From the antique cars to the celebrations and holiday tours, this town should be on everyone’s “must-see” destinations for Christmas.
From NYC to Stockbridge, Massachusetts, any one of these locations would make the perfect holiday getaway! Whether it be this year or next, if you’d like to explore the options of staying at one of these locations, click the link below and one of our Fairy Godmothers will be more than happy to help you get planning!
Let’s give the gift of travel and memories this Christmas!
